Gowan would like to congratulate Vic Smith, Gowan Group board member and CEO of JV Smith Companies, for receiving an Honorary Doctorate from the College of Agriculture and Life Science at the University of Arizona.
Headquartered in Yuma, AZ, JV Smith Companies is a group of farming, cooling, and distribution facilities in Arizona, Colorado, California, and Baja Mexico. Contributing to Yuma’s title as the “winter lettuce capital of the world”, JV Farms grows a wide variety of leafy greens and vegetables, among other crops. Mr. Smith is heavily involved in the agricultural community and has served on multiple boards over the past few decades. In addition to his contributions to agriculture, Smith and his wife, Karen are also heavily involved in various philanthropies and have donated to numerous causes serving the Yuma and agricultural communities. This year, Smith gave $1.5 million to the University of Arizona College of Agriculture and Life Sciences leading to the establishment of the Victor P. Smith Endowed Chair in Food Safety Education.
